As soon as I saw a sneak peek of the Jan- June Mini Catalogue I knew that I would have to have the You Are Amazing Project Kit!
It wasn't just that Bermuda Bay, Pretty Peacock and Granny Apple Green (some of my favourite colours) were featured, but I also fell in love with the foil labels, die cuts and accents of vellum.
All in a very cute box that just happens to be "my colour".
This kit has it all!!
The main reason however, that this kit caught my attention, was that I KNEW I needed it and could put it to great use.
For those that don't know me, I am a teacher and work fulltime in a Senior Engagement Program.
Basically I spend my day with a fabulous bunch of 16-19 year olds that have faced some challenges in their life and have often had "unsuccessful" schooling (and life) experiences.
I have up to 18 of these young people with me, in our own Advisory Group, every day-
and I LOVE IT!!!
Whilst officially our focus is on improving Literacy and Numeracy, we all know that we need to nuture the whole human for academic learning to take place.
Ok so where does this kit come in you ask?
In our class we celebrate each other and part of that is birthdays. Everyone signs and writes a nice comment to each other for their birthday.
I often struggle to come up with appropriate images and styles for the cards for these guys!
For some of my students this is the only acknowledgement of their birthday that they will receive.
They all know their turn and card will be coming, so it is lovely to see them get excited (I have to reassure those that have a birthday during holiday breaks or weekends that they won't be forgotten)
One important lesson that I have learned in this job is to never underestimate the power of a personal card!
(Just a side note and thank you here to some of my Stamping Sisters- fellow demonstrators and crafters that have provided me, and other Advisory Teachers in our Program with cards for our students.)
This kit is perfect for this job!!!!
The colours, the simple wording, the patterns...I feel like it was almost designed just for us.
So we are now Day 5 of a week in lockdown here in Perth.
School was meant to resume for the year on Monday and so after checkng in with my students and making sure they were OK, I decided to get started on this kit.
You will notice that I have gone "off grid" and changed up the designs, that is because the students display their cards on their workstations (and reread them regularly- who doesn't like to read nice things that others have written about you right??) so they needed to be a bit different.
I have added a few numerals as we will celebrate some 18th birthdays this year.
I also made a few different cards as we also use a lot of Thank You cards in our classroom; for guest speakers, Work Experience hosts and others that help us in many ways.
I will keep working on some other cards using different suites so that I have a mixture ready to go, but here is my take on the You Are Amazing Project Kit, 24 cards and still some elements left over to embellish more projects!!
Interesting in getting one of these kits yourself?
Feel free to shop online or message me.
If you have a moment or two, please also subscribe to my blog or leave a message so I know at least someone reads this :)
Stay safe and stay inky!
